Maroubra Junction Public School

Celebrating the Maroubra Community - past and present

100 Views in action!

Students perform for the community at the 100 Views Festival.

Maroubra Junction Public School is located in the eastern suburbs of Sydney not far from Maroubra Beach. The school has extensive playground space, a before and after school care centre and a vacation care centre operating within the grounds.70% of our students are from a non-English speaking background and we have two community language programs, Greek and Chinese. We have an active school council and P&C, a student representative council, a very supportive community and a dedicated teaching staff.

Our Mission is to provide quality education in a caring environment.

We develop the academic, cultural, physical and social potential of each child.  This is accomplished by encouraging children to become self-motivated individuals, who strive for excellence, developing independence and co-operation. Our vision is for a school where students, staff and parents work together to create a caring and stimulating environment for learning, to maximise the potential of every individual. Finding A True Creative Path

Taking part in the 100 Views project allows for further education in the form of the learning modules, encouraging staff to improve teaching skills whilst enjoying further insight in the community in which they are teaching. Strong support through workshops, meetings and so on, allows for a synergy between schools, their students and their community, and for a true creative path to be forged. With thanks to Hokusai for the inspiration, and to its adaptation by Australina children's writer,  100 Views in 2000’s allows for potential to be unlocked, and is multi-directional as technology expands.

The Maroubra Community

The 100 Views Project encourages the school to reach out to the community in as many ways as it can. It has the potential to help build a stronger sense of community. In celebrating the chosen ICON, the word Maroubra, the school is encouraging the community to make contact with its own school, particularly in the lead up to the Festival phase . The 100 Views Project encourages contact within the school itself, with other schools, with community groups, local organizations, local businesses, government bodies and so on. It embraces the notion that every community member has something to offer. It could be a memory, a recipe, a photograph, an article, a book, a webpage, a pattern, a house plan, a painting, a dance, all kinds of amazing things. But most of all it’s the engagement with local community that is important. (Ref: Maroubra Junction PS 100 Views Discussion Paper).
